Landover Logistics Center

About this Project

Landover Logistics Center is a 360,000 square foot tilt-up warehouse with an interior height of 32 feet.

Challenges

The existing 360,000 square foot structure had to be demolished to slab on grade elevation.  The existing slab on grade was left in place except for a 70-foot wide band around the entire perimeter to create a new casting area.  The existing building had been built in three phases spanning thirty years, resulting in varying elevations in the existing slab on grade, and requiring a topping slab over all existing slabs.

Solutions

All of the demolished concrete, totaling over 14,000 tons, was crushed on site and used for backfill and subgrade for the new structure.  The new topping slab was raised to an elevation to match the new 70-foot wide casting area around the building perimeter, where 113 tilt-up panels were cast.

Results

Landover Logistics Center is a 2014 American Concrete Institute Award of Excellence Winner in the National Capital area and has been submitted to the US Green Building Council for certification as a Silver LEED project.
